Hotels Guidelines

Safety Recommendations

  • Contactless check-in and check out options are in place

    • Remote check-in solutions offer guests the ability to access their rooms with a digital key and complete check-out through their mobile. This can also be extended to common areas and rooms throughout the hotel.

    • If using an app, document photos for check-in and unique codes for unlocking rooms can be achieved this way.

  • Contactless payment solutions are the default payment method to limit any physical contact between staff and guests.

    • Covering contactless payment pads with soft plastic to ensure the surface can easily be wiped down.

  • Employers are not informing its staff of the identity of the person with the confirmed diagnosis, or provide other identifying information about such person. If there is a need to provide identifying information about the affected person, the employer should consult with its legal counsel.

  • Policies are in place to prevent staff from working if they have symptoms or have had symptoms in the last 48 hours (including temperature screening).

    • Contactless methods of temperature screening are recommended where possible, with the use of digital thermometers for accuracy. These should be available for all employees pre-shift.

    • Any new symptoms, including but not limited to: fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, fatigue, sore throat, conjunctivitis (red eyes), loss of appetite, increased spit up, dizziness, headache, runny nose, chest pain, coughing up blood, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, stuffy nose, lost of taste or smell.

    • In the case that any unusual or suspicious symptoms are present, employees should refrain from coming into work and follow local public health protocol regarding testing.

    • Encourage remote working where possible to reduce in office traffic.

  • Recommendations are followed from local Public Health Authority for guidelines or reporting cases.

  • If in effect, increased cleanings and sanitization are scheduled for all surfaces, counter tops and highly visited traffic areas.

  • Guests are provided with any current guidance concerning precautions that are in place that may affect their arrival, stay, and departure.

    • This can include specific signage with information posted near the entrance and. It is recommended that the signage provide information and protocols in the event that symptoms are developed during the guests stay.

  • Create policies to be set up to prevent staff from working if they have symptoms

    or have had symptoms in the last 48 hours (including temperature screening).

  • Provide PPE to be readily available for all staff to cover nose, mouth and eyes.

  • Employee zoned areas and breakout rooms:

    • Provide fully-sterilized areas or zones designated for staff only intended for food, beverages and removing any personal protective equipment.

    • Provide a hand washing or hand sanitization facility closest to the entrance of this break room.

    • Prohibit access to guests and visitors.

    • Clear instructions on how to remove and/or discard staff related PPE. See here for more general guidelines.

      • Provide garbage bins at all facility entrance, exits and staff break rooms to properly discard one time use PPE.

    • Ensure there is limited sharing of utensils, as well as that any shared utensils are thoroughly cleaned between each use.

  • At least one staff member on the property is properly trained as a hygiene manager, responsible for following any guidelines or protocols administered by local health professionals.

  • Increased frequency cleaning in place for specific hospital-grade disinfectants for all high-touch surfaces and areas (ex: lobbies, guestrooms, restaurants, meeting and event spaces, recreational areas, public restrooms, fitness centers, elevator buttons and any or all employee areas).

    • Efforts are made to explore purification and sanitization device installation to ensure air quality

  • Enhanced food safety and hygiene protocols are in place for restaurants, room service, and group meetings and events.

  • Hand sanitizers are prominently placed throughout the hotel, employee areas and entrances.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are worn by hotel staff at all times.

  • Room seals are in place on room doors to indicate to guests that their room has not been accessed since being thoroughly cleaned.

  • Extra process in place to disinfect high touch surfaces within rooms (light switches, door handles, TV remotes, thermostats).

  • Amenities such as pens, paper pads, and paper directories are removed or only provided upon request. Digital solutions are provided whenever possible.

  • More frequently visited areas such as fitness or business centers are closed unless multiple cleaning shifts have been scheduled or a restriction with capacity of guests are in place.
